Factorial has supplied Mercedes-Benz with samples of solid-state batteries

Factorial, a developer specializing in solid-state EV batteries, has supplied Mercedes-Benz with B-samples of its 106+Ah lithium-metal solid-state battery cells. This marks the latest milestone in their collaborative effort under a joint development agreement aimed at advancing product maturity and facilitating the series production of passenger EVs featuring Factorial’s solid-state battery technology. Alongside Mercedes-Benz, Factorial has similar joint development agreements with Stellantis, Hyundai Motor Company, and Kia Corporation.

Previously, Factorial had delivered over 1,000 100+Ah solid-state battery cells to Mercedes-Benz during the A-sample phase. The B-samples will now undergo integration into modules and battery packs for thorough testing and optimization. This phase will involve validating module and pack designs against Mercedes-Benz’s performance criteria, while also assessing the robustness of Factorial’s supply chain and manufacturing processes to ensure scalability for future vehicle testing.

The solid-state battery cells provided to Mercedes-Benz utilize Factorial’s proprietary FEST (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology) platform, which incorporates a lithium-metal anode. Leveraging existing equipment from lithium-ion battery production with minimal modifications, Factorial’s batteries streamline the manufacturing validation process and reduce long-term operating costs.
